WHO WE ARE

Late. Henry Bagho

The Late Henry Bagho was born in around 1931, although his agemates or group shows that he is older. He started his elementary school in the village and later joined Okaru. After secondary school, he went to Uganda to pursue priestly education, and he reached the rank of an acolyte, which is a step before deaconate. Due to family pressure, he had to leave the priesthood vocation and returned home. After returning home, he found opportunity to complete his studies in Italy. Upon returning from Italy, he joined the teaching profession and was teaching amongst others Christian religion in Rumbek Senior secondary School, and he also worked at Barclay bank in the Sudan for few years. While in Khartoum, he, and other South Sudanese leaders namely, Abiel Alier, Hilary Paul Logole and Clement Mboro formed the South Front in which he was the secretary of finance. Upon the peace agreement of 1972, he was appointed as the first commissioner of Equatoria region.
Late Henry Bagho loved education and supporting students. Being a teacher, he made sure that students, especially children, get the opportunities to further their studies. He built schools in Lafon (his hometown) and the only road that connected North Torit, which is a major town in Eastern Equatoria State of South Sudan, and Juba, which is the capital city of South Sudan. This road became the only lifeline of the area, thanks to his efforts. During his time as a commissioner, he provided scholarships to students through his connections with donors around the world. As a tribute to the late Henry’s dedication to education, the organization aims to perpetuate his legacy by fostering the next generation of young leaders. His people respect and love him for the services that he provided during his time in the government, and they named a local area school, Henry Bagho Memorial Primary School, for his honor and keeping his name relevant for generations.
